The overarching goals of our group are as follows: We seek to combine the elements of chemical synthesis with materials engineering and catalysis science to develop new methodologies by which targeted single site catalysts (so‐called next generation catalysts) can be prepared. Beyond defining and preparing targeted active sites on the surface of a support, two other criteria must be met in practice: high site densities and high surface area (i.e. porous supports). In last three years we have made significant progress towards the goals described above, identified new challenges and a number of new ideas under the umbrella of this program of research. Specifically, we will continue to study and understand the basic synthetic strategy that we have developed (the method of sequential additions) which allows us to target specific catalytic sites in the matrices we prepare.
